AI Stocks Rebound as Earnings Put Technology Trade to the Test
Published on October 19, 2026
U.S. stock futures rose Monday as AI-linked shares recovered from last week’s sharp technology selloff. CoreWeave, Broadcom and Nvidia gained in premarket trading, while lower oil prices and Treasury yields supported risk appetite. The week’s earnings slate, including reports from Meta and Tesla, will test the durability of the rebound.

AI stocks attempt a rebound after last week’s selloff
U.S. stock futures rose Monday as technology shares recovered from a sharp decline, putting the artificial-intelligence trade back at the center of investor attention. S&P 500 futures were up 0.47%, while Nasdaq 100 futures gained 0.99% in early trading, according to Reuters.
The move followed the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite’s biggest weekly declines since late June, with technology stocks pressured by concerns that higher interest rates could restrain spending on AI infrastructure, particularly among data-center operators. Bloomberg reported that Nasdaq 100 contracts climbed 1.3% and that a semiconductor-focused exchange-traded fund rose 3.6% in premarket trading, its first daily gain in 10 sessions.
Chip and AI names lead early recovery
Several AI-linked stocks moved higher before the opening bell. CoreWeave rose 1.3%, Broadcom gained 2.3% and Nvidia advanced 1.1%, while Amazon and Meta Platforms also edged higher, Reuters reported. The rebound remained concentrated in the companies most exposed to the recent AI-investment debate rather than representing a broad change in the market’s underlying concerns.
Oil prices and Treasury yields also moved lower, supporting the morning’s risk appetite. Brent crude fell 1.8% to about $107 a barrel after President Donald Trump waived some sanctions on Russia, according to Reuters. Lower energy prices and yields helped lift futures, although investors continued to assess whether inflation and interest-rate risks could limit gains in longer-duration growth stocks.
Earnings put the trade to the test
The week’s corporate-results calendar is now the main catalyst for the technology sector. Reuters said Meta is expected to beat Wall Street estimates, while Tesla is scheduled to report Wednesday. Other coverage identified Meta, Tesla, IBM, Lam Research and Texas Instruments as companies reporting after the close on Oct. 21, with 70 S&P 500 companies expected to report during the week. Morningstar also described the rebound as tentative after last week’s heavy AI-stock selling.
What to watch
Investors will be watching whether the premarket recovery extends into regular trading and whether upcoming technology earnings address spending on data centers and AI infrastructure. Meta’s and Tesla’s results, along with the broader run of technology reports, may provide the next test of whether last week’s selloff reflected temporary positioning or deeper concerns about valuations, funding costs and AI-investment returns.
